What is a spiritual awakening?

A spiritual awakening is when you are able to transmute your pain and struggles into your life into a higher consciousness awareness. It is a point in your life where you start to see and experience life differently.

You may approach relationships differently and may start seeing the way people behave and talk as nonproductive.

Spiritual awakening is life-changing and is an individual journey for everyone who allows themselves to go through one. You are experiencing life outside of a higher ego self and are able to experience life outside of the physical becoming more self-aware of your presence in your life.

What causes a spiritual awakening?

There are many reasons a spiritual awakening may want to enter into our lives. It is a need to change, to transform our lives for the better. To give yourself the life you truly desire and live a meaningful life.

A marriage ending in a divorce, losing a child or family member, losing your home, all these things in your life can transpire in a ‘door’ opening to a spiritual awakening.

What do all these things have in common? Struggle, pain, and life-changing events happening.

This is not meant to scare you but to make you look at your life more from a spiritual perspective.

Let’s take a look at the stages of your awakening now or in the future.

The Stages

Before we go over the stages, understand that this is subjective for each individual person going through it. Many may experience various different stages in their life and it is up to you to discern what is happening around them in a conscious manner.

Stage 1: The Initial Stage

This is the stage where you may not be fully aware of why things are happening for you at that specific time. You may be questioning things, re-evaluating life, relationships, yourself, and everything in your life.

There is uncertainty in your life and major questioning on your existence.

Stage 2: The Call To Change

In the second stage, you may be curious as to how to find comfort or healing through religion or nature. You may be doing this unconsciously on figuring out your purpose for your life or existence. At this time you may be looking into the concept of life after death.

There is something you feel a need to change but are unsure of what exactly it is.

Stage 3: Transmuting Pain

There has been an enormous amount of pain in your life, struggles, letdowns, too many that you start to wonder what it all could mean or what it is. A reason for your pain that others have caused (but that you have allowed) this is all triggering but is needed for a metamorphic into your life.

It may be a traumatic moment you start trying to heal, answers and truths you are finding out that cause more pain at the moment.

Stage 4: The Hermit

By now, you have either allowed yourself to continue to suppress your emotions, traumas, and feelings, by looking at the outside world as the problem and retreating into hermit mode

OR

You are allowed to go within yourself to understand your limits, boundaries, and morals that you stand by. These two instances will put you into hermit mode, but which way you handle this time is when a breakthrough will happen like the time when the caterpillar turns into a butterfly.

Stage 5: Boundaries

Most of your pain was not in vain. It has allowed you to become the person, soul, begin, that you have turned into at this stage.

You have set boundaries and have learned how to say no and give time to yourself. There are things you have learned in solitude from the previous stage. You learn how to retreat your energy to recharge and start to view the world with different eyes.

What people tell you or say you start having your opinions and stance on topics. You surround yourself with like-minded people.

This stage is when you start to not relate to most people and so you may catch yourself begin alone or want to find like-minded people. You become more aware of how more people in this world are operating from a higher ego or self-interest or play victimizing roles in their own life.

Stage 6: The Forever Journey

You will now realize that you may have gone through a few spiritual awakenings or changes within your personality. In hindsight, you will be able to look back on your life and start to continuously learn aspects of yourself as well as others that make you all one.

The awakening stages are humbling, and introspective, and give you more of a sense of responsibility which may feel overwhelming at times.

A responsibility to speak as an awakened soul to others is not the easiest thing for others to hear.

How to have a spiritual awakening

As mentioned previously, you can not force a spiritual awakening, you can only become open to one. Become open to learning more about yourself and others outside of the material world.

Start becoming more conscious and aware of the thoughts you think and the words you speak. This is a time to look at yourself from an outside point of view.

Here are a few ways you can become more open to a spiritual awakening:

  • Take space for yourself in solitude (in nature, without technology)
  • Write down things you know about yourself (outside of the material world)
  • Be aware of who you surround yourself with (this is important)
  • Start saying ‘No’ to things you can not do (this will leave your energy depleted)
  • You can not give what you do not have, make space in your life for you
  • Learn to forgive yourself and heal your trauma (many are hurt without knowing)
  • Take accountability and responsibility for you
  • Be mindful of your thoughts and actions
  • Seek help through introspective therapy with yourself or a professional
  • Be kind, nurturing, and understanding of others

How do I know I am going through a spiritual awakening

We would all love to know if we are going through a spiritual awakening to become better prepared. But, there is no way to always know exactly when you are going through one, especially if it’s your first one.

You may not be able to know until you look back on it and pinpoint the gradual changes that have led up to your spiritual awakening.

Since we are not able to exactly tell you how would you know since you would know yourself best we can go over some symptoms of spiritual awakening (this is not medical advice)

Physical symptoms of spiritual awakening

(Follow best practices to seek professional help as this is not medical advice, nor is it intended to take its place of it.)

It is up to you to take cues from your body and start making changes in your life. Your body is an important road map that we fail to ignore.

Your sense is heightening at this time.

How long does a spiritual awakening last?

This is a fun one (not really) because spiritual awakenings are accompanied by painful traumatic events.

Everyone will have a different time frame. It is up to you how well you take in the information and changes that need to be made.

If you are faced with the same struggles time and time again and not learning or changing your life that may only prolong the process.

You may catch yourself going through another spiritual awakening right after you just had one. Sorry to break it to you, but if there is anyone out there giving you a time frame they have a high chance of begin wrong.

Some it may be a few months, others a year, etc. There is no answer to this as we are all going through our own particular journey.

Embrace the transformation

The spiritual journey is one that begins with our spiritual awakening and how to become more spiritually connected, even though it can be challenging, this path of self-discovery and spiritual growth can be the most beautiful and transformative path we can take in our lives.

As we grow spiritually, we feel truly connected to ourselves, to people, to our belifs, and to every aspect of our lives.

Our relationships become more meaningful and authentic.

Our sex life improves as we become more attuned to our bodies.

And we gift ourselves the joy of experiencing life with more intention, presence, and vibrancy than ever before.
